Learning how to play blackjack online is easy. The betting systems and game play are fairly simplistic. What is a Blackjack ?

A Blackjack is the best hand in the game, achieved when the player (or dealer) is dealt a natural hand (first two cards only) that equals 21. This requires an Ace, and any card that values 10 (10, Jack, Queen or King).

When Blackjack was first introduced to American casinos, the game was not very popular. In order to attract more players, the casinos would offer a higher payout for getting a true blackjack, meaning an Ace and a “black” Jack. The name caught on, and has stuck ever since.

A blackjack normally pays 1.5:1, or 3:2. So if you bet $20 and hit a Blackjack, you would win $30 (plus your $20 back returned). When the dealer has Blackjack, all players automatically lose their original bet. The only exception is when the player and dealer both have Blackjack, in which case it’s a tie (Push), and the player’s bet is returned.

Blackjack Card Values

You can probably assume the value of each card in Blackjack, but we’ll cover this anyway just to avoid any confusion, especially with the Ace. Each card’s value is as follows:

2-10 = Face Value
Face Cards = 10
Ace – 1 or 11

If the hand totals 21 or less with the Ace counted as 11, it will be 11. If the hand equals more than 21 when an Ace is 11, the Ace drops to 1. For example, A(11)+5+7 = 23, which would Bust, but if you drop the Ace to 1, it becomes 13.

How to Play Blackjack

The game starts with every player placing a wager, within the table limits. Each player is then dealt two cards, both face down. The dealer’s cards are dealt one face-down, the next face up. The player will look at his cards, then make one of the following choices:

Hit: To take one more card.

Stand: To keep your current hand, taking no more cards.

Split: Should both cards be the same (i.e. 9+9, Q=Q, etc), the player may choose to Split them. Each card becomes the first card in a new Blackjack hand, resulting in two hands. The player must place an equal wager (same as the first) on the new hand. The first hand is played out (Hit, Stand, Split, etc.), then the second hand plays out.

Double: To take only one more card, requiring the player to double his original bet size. This is often done when the player is dealt 11, since 10s+face cards are the most common, increasing the chance of being dealt 21. A player may only Double on his first Hit, and may not Hit again afterwards.

Bust: If a players hand exceeds 21 at any time, he Busts. The hand and bet is instantly lost. The same goes for the dealer.

Other blackjack Bets

Insurance: Insurance is only optional when the dealer’s face-up card is an Ace. The player can purchase Insurance in case the dealer has Blackjack. Insurance cost 50% of your original wager, and pays 2:1 if the dealer has Blackjack, but the original wager is lost (essentially, the player breaks even). If the dealer does not have Blackjack, the Insurance bet is lost and the hand continues.

Surrender: Some casinos will allow a player to Surrender before taking any cards. When a player Surrenders, half of his original bet is lost, and the other half returned. The hand is forfeited.

Blackjack Dealer’s Hand Development Rules

The blackjack dealer is forced to follow specific rules that govern hand development. This is how the house ensures a slight advantage over he player at all times. The rules are as follows:

If the dealers hand equals 16 or below, he must Hit.

If the dealer’s hand equal 17 or above, he must Stand.

Soft 17: In most casinos, if the dealer has Soft 17 (any sum of 17 that includes an Ace, counted as 11), he must Hit.

European Roulette vs American Roulette

As you may know, there are regional variants of Roulette. The most popular are American Roulette and European Roulette. The difference is nothing more than a single zero (0) in the European version, while American has the single zero (0) and double zero (00). Doesn’t seem like it matters much, right? Wrong.

If you place a wager on a single number in European Roulette, such as 15, the odds of that number hitting are 37:1, with a payout of 35:1. In American roulette, the odds are 38:1, but the payout is the same, 35:1. The key to choosing the right casino game is the house edge. The Roulette Wheel

The Roulette Wheel is where all of the real action takes place. There are 37 pockets, numbered 0-36. The numbers seem to be scattered at random around the wheel, but if you study it, there is actually a method to its madness. Low numbers are across from high numbers, odd across from even, black and red alternating. Numbers 1-12 are scattered about, just like 13-14 and 25-36. The Roulette wheel gives no advantage to the players when placing bets.

Once every bet has been placed, the wheel is spun. A small ball is dropped into the wheel tossed in the opposite direction. The pocket this ball finally comes to a rest in will depict the winning number and color.

The Roulette Table

The roulette table is a rectangular display of all possible bets. The diagram offers all numbers, 0 and 1-36, with each backdropped in the same color as found on the wheel. Players will place their chips in the area of the table that corresponds with their desired bets.

Inside Bets are those made on the actual numbers, within the inside of the table’s betting diagram. These are all listed below.

How to Play Roulette

Actually playing roulette is very simple. Choose the bet type you would like to make, then place on chips on the area of the Roulette table diagram that corresponds with your bet. If the bet is won, you are paid, and your bet is returned. If the bet is lost, the chips are collected.

On the contrary, Craps is not a difficult game to learn. In fact, the most common bets are extremely simplistic, and with these understood, learning the full range of betting options in Craps shouldn’t take but a minimal portion of your time.

How to Play Casino Craps

In Craps, there is one shooter (the person tossing the dice), and no real limit to the amount of bettors who can participate. To put it simply, if you can fit yourself around the table, you can place a bet.

The shooter continues rolling until he has established a point (anything but 2, 3, 7, 11 or 12). After the point is rolled, the shooter’s turn ends when he rolls a 7. At this time, the dice are passed clockwise to the next player, who becomes the new shooter. A player can choose not to become the shooter if he wishes.

With only one shooter and so many bettors, it is the ins and outs of the Craps table diagram that will give you the most insight to playing Casino Craps. We will now define all Craps Bets.

Casino Craps Bets

There are two basic kinds of bets, single roll bets and multiple roll bets. Multiple roll bets are bets that are placed and remain on the table until a specific action occurs. Each Craps bet is detailed below.

Line Bets

The most common Craps bet of all is called a Line Bet. There are four different types of Line Bets. They are so popular because they carry an incredibly low house edge of 1.4% to 1.41%. Line Bets are multiple roll bets because they stay on the table until won or lost.

Pass Line: This is a wager that may only be placed on the shooter’s Come Out Roll (very first roll, before a point is established). If a 7 or 11 is rolled, the bet instantly wins. If a 2, 3 or 12 is rolled, the bet is instantly lost. Any other number becomes the Point, and the Pass Line Bet becomes a wager that the point will roll once more before a 7 comes.

Don’t Pass: This works in the opposite manner as a Pass Line Bet. Placed before the Come Out Roll, if a 2, 3 or 12 rolls, the bet wins. If a 7 or 11 comes, the bet loses. If a point is established, it becomes a bet that a 7 will roll before the point comes again.

Come: This bet must be placed right after the Point has been established. It is a multiple-roll bet that stays on the table until the Point, or a 7, is rolled. If the Point rolls again first, the bet is won. If a 7 rolls first, the bet is lost.

Don’t Come: The opposite of a Come bet, this is also placed immediately after the Point. If a 7 rolls before the Point, the bet is won. If the Point rolls first, the bet is lost.

Other Multiple-Roll Craps Bets

Place Bet: This is a bet where the player choses one number – 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10. If the selected number rolls before a 7, the bet is won.

Place Bet to Lose: Again, the player selects a number – 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10. If a 7 comes before the chosen number rolls, the bet is won.

Big 6 / Big 8 Bet: these bets work exactly the same as a Place Bet on 6 or 8. However, the payout is slightly lower on Big 6 and Big 8 bets. Instead of making this Craps Bet, stick with the Place Bets if you want to bet on 6 or 8.

Hardway Bet: This bet calls for a specific number to be rolled the “hard way”. For example, a Hardway-4 would require a 2+2 roll, Hardway-8 is 4+4, etc. Hardway bets can be placed on 4, 6, 8 or 10. If the Hardway number rolls before a 7, the bet is won.

Craps Bets: Single Roll Bets
Single Roll Bets in Craps are, as the name implies, bets that are won or lost after a single roll.

Field Bet: The Field Bet area contains a list of numbers – 2, 3, 4, 9 10, 11 or 12. If any of these numbers are the next to roll, you win the bet.

Proposition Bets: There are numerous proposition bets available on the Craps table. We don’t recommend making proposition bets because the house edge is so high, even though the payoff can be so attractive. Proposition bets include:

Craps Betting Tip: If you are certain a 7 will roll next, and simply must place a proposition bet on it, do not place a bet on Any Seven. Instead, place three equal bets on all Hardway 7′s. If the bet is won, the payoff will be higher.
